This lesson is designed for ninth and tenth grade Biology I Gateway or Ecology students. Students will analyze the major biogeochemical cycles in the biosphere, constructing their own interpretation of the models and discuss the impact humans have on the carbon, nitrogen, phosphoruous and water cycles in our biosphere.
Standard Number: 3.0 Photosynthesis and Respiration
The students will…
3.3 Analyze the carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and water cycles in the biosphere.
Biogeochemcal cycle cards (cards describing each step in the individual cycles)
As with any lab assignment or group work a short reminder of proper behavior is neccessary. Topics such as no running with sharp objects, handle equipment with care, etc.
After the students have handled the soil/compost/mulch they will be reminded to wash their hands at the sinks within the classroom. They will also be instructed to clean any messes that they make.
