I will have preselected groups and put each students name on a card and placed it into the group display board.  After Think-pair-share I will uncover the names and allow the students to transition into their groups.  I will explain that these are their home groups and I will keep these names up here so they don’t forget.  I will then divide the students into (pre-selected) expert groups, four total.  Each expert group will then be given a biogeochemical cycle, either nitrogen, carbon, phosphorous or water.  The group will then be given pre-constructed cards with the phases written in paragraph form, describing each step and pertinent information.  The students will be told that the cards are in a random order and it is their job to reason out the steps of their assigned cycle based on the cards and using paper/markers/pencils to construct a visual of the cycle.
